Three Days, Three Team Members, One Meal
“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art” -François de La Rochefoucauld
It often feels hard to find quality downtime. Days are filled with work, meetings, exercise, tv, studying, dog-walking, planning, cleaning - you get the gist. For us at Peaceful Fruits, we often find ourselves involved with work or work-related activities as we hustle to grow the company and tell more people about our story. To make matters even more complicated, two of us work remotely from Akron, making it even more difficult for us to get that quality time together in order to bond as a team.
We decided to change that. Taking a long weekend in October, we all descended upon Akron to bond, hold working sessions with advisors, and strategize for 2019. In the midst of the chaos of travel and meetings, we had the opportunity to eat a healthy meal together with greens provided by Gotham Greens. Over fresh produce we got to know each other a bit better as we learned about our hobbies outside of work, what each of us envision for the future, and our own relationships with food and snacking. Between bites of our sweet potato quinoa bowls with Brooklyn lettuce and gulps of our strawberry-basil smoothies, we laughed together as a Peaceful Fruits family and felt more peaceful about work, about our meal, and about each other.
It seemed especially fitting to partner with Gotham Greens for this meal because of their mission to offer fresh and high-quality greens to people living in urban environments. Gotham Greens is a pioneer in the field of urban agriculture and a leading regional producer of greenhouse grown vegetables and herbs. Just like we used the meal to find some harmony in the midst of our work lives, this organization seeks to create calm in busy environments. Where others see gray rooftops, the team at Gotham Greens sees a field green with opportunity for sustainable agriculture. Founded in 2009, Gotham Greens built the first commercial rooftop greenhouse in the United States on top of a building in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Today, Gotham Greens has over 170,000 square feet of greenhouse facilities in New York and Chicago with plans of expansion.

Our meal together put a brief pause on all of the hectic chaos to help us remember why we do what do - promote healthy eating and strong community in a sustainable way. In our stressful and busy lives, it’s important that we take time to enjoy the present moment as a Peaceful fruits family - and what better way to do it than over a meal.
